at home
Holding a curry event at home is one of the simplest ways to take part in Care for a curry?™ Even a small group of people can raise money and have a great time doing it! It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends or arrange a get-together with family members.
If you want to hold a Care for a curry?™ event at home, email us at careforacurry@alzscot.org or call Moira, our events manager, on 0845 2600 789. In the meantime, here are a few ideas to get you started:
- If you’re a dab hand in the kitchen, you could always rustle up your own batch of spiced delights to appeal to your guests. Prepare the curry that’s always proved popular in the past, or even dust off those cookbooks you’ve been meaning to use
- If you’re keen on cooking but you’re not too familiar with cooking curries, try out one of our recipes. A selection of healthy curry dishes can be found in the recipe section (see the links on the right hand side of the page)
- If you don’t have time to prepare all the food for your event, ask each guest to bring their own favourite curry dish
- Or, if cooking really doesn’t appeal to anyone taking part, there’s always the local supermarket or trusty takeaway to fall back on!
If you fancy an evening with entertainment as well as food, then you could always throw a curry karaoke, or invite a few more people round for a buffet-style pakora party. When you’re inviting people to your event, let them know that it’s a fundraiser and that you’ll be expecting donations (all the more so if a full meal is being provided!). Donation envelopes are included in our information packs (see links on the right hand side of the page).
A £15 donation from each guest could help us with…
Alzheimer Scotland’s freephone dementia helpline (0808 808 3000) takes over 5,000 calls annually and provides information, understanding and emotional support when callers need it most. £15 provides a basic information pack for a carer, sent out in response to a call to the helpline.
Care for a Curry?™ is a fundraising initiative of Alzheimer Scotland: helping people with dementia and their carers across Scotland.
