Welcome to our recipe section, where you’ll find a growing selection of healthy curry dishes that are simple to prepare, even if you’ve never cooked a curry before. Typical curry recipes are often quite high in fat: we’ve done our best to provide recipes which contain low levels of fat and substitute high-fat for low-fat ingredients wherever possible (with the possible exception of pudding, but we like to think of that as ‘a little of what you fancy does you good!’).

Research has suggested that a wide selection of traditional curry ingredients may have beneficial properties when it comes to reducing your risk of developing dementia. Curcumin, the compound which causes the yellow colour in turmeric, may help control the buildup of amyloid plaques in the brain that contribute to Alzheimer’s disease. The high level of flavanoids and sulphur-based compounds in onions have shown potential in reducing memory loss and slowing cognitive decline.

Feel free to submit your own healthy curry recipes, either in the comment box below or by emailing them to careforacurry@alzscot.org.
